GRID Demo on XBL

Considering how awesome DiRT was, I'm eager to try Codemasters' new racing game - GRID. It's now available as a demo on XBox Live, so give it a try yourself.

Also play that Bourne demo if you haven't yet. It's great.

id Working on Doom 4

Guess it was just a matter of time before id went back to their flagship franchise, but I didn't expect to hear about it quite this soon. However, it's official. id is working on Doom 4, and they are accepting applications for various positions. If you're interested, head off to their site and see what you can apply for.

Most of us will just wait for the game.

Gears 2 footage Friday

Get ready to mark your calendars. Both GameTrailers and GameVideos will have Gears of War 2 footage available this Friday. Here's the release from Kotaku... and I'll be posting both clips here come Friday.

"GameTrailers TV isn't the only outlet getting a helping of Gears of War 2 video exclusivity, as 1UP—read GameVideos—is touting its own must see clip. It's hitting the internet at 10:30 PM Pacific Time, beating Spike TV's programming in some time zones."

New Battlefield: Bad Company clips

IGN Got some more time in with the upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company shooter - specifically the single-player portion of the game. I'm skeptical still, as the SP portion of Battlefield: Modern Combat was utter crap. However, we'll see how this shapes up before drawing conclusions eh?

First footage of Mirror's Edge

Great concept here, and from the first footage, this free-running action game has got the style and execution to match. Keep an eye on this one.

Reason enough to get GTA

Ok, so it's a little twisted, but think of it as playing with a flimsy GI-Joe, rather than a person doing all these horrible things to himself. Gotta admit though, ragdoll and physics are a great combination.

XBLA Rocketmen getting an expansion

Rocketmen: Axis of Evil is a fun XBLA game, with a surprising length. I played it through with my 9-year-old son, and we had a blast. An expansion looks to add to the fun with some new levels and weapons, and despite its flaws, it's likely worth getting as well. Here's a video preview.

Bourne Demo online now

Good news for those interested in the new Bourne game coming out shortly (like me). The demo for the title is available on XBox Live for download. Go give it a try!

EDIT/ADDITION:

Holy Crap! This game is looking to be absolutely fantastic. The demo has 3 different scenarios to play through. In the first, you are escaping from the US Embassy with Marines in hot pursuit. Dive under security grates, dodge sniper fire on the rooftops, and beat the crap out of all kinds of enemies.

In the second, you are in a gunfight and trying to get onto a plane that is transporting a prisoner. Your goal is the prisoner's assassination. Pistols, machine guns, and a shotgun are all there to use, and it transitions nicely between melee and shooting combat.

The final scenario has you in a small car and evading the police through the streets of London (I think). Drive real fast, cause accidents, and get out.

Several high points to mention:

- Combat with fists looks absolutely brutal. Never seen anything like it, in all honesty. It feels exactly like a Bourne movie, and there are all kinds of takedowns and other nasty surprises you can use. Key enemies can use takedowns too, so watch out. Cool thing is that 'blocking' doesn't make you stand like a fool with your hands up, magically blocking all punches. Instead, Bourne moves, dodges, and counters... just like in the film.

- Guns pack a punch, destroy cover, and can be used a key moments to do a shooting takedown of multiple enemies at once. Poetry in motion. You can steal enemy weapons, grab dropped ones, and use cover just like Gears of War.

Few potential problems:

- There are lots of quicktime cinematic moments where you have to push a specific flashing button on a tight timeline. Once you know when it's coming, you can prepare, but most of the time they kick in without warning and you'll fail the first few times. Not a problem in itself, but reloading that section can take 15-25 seconds... and then if you fail again a mere 5 seconds in, it's another wait. That'll get the reviewers angry for sure.

- Combat options are  mostly done for you. There's a fast attack and a strong attack, but no real combos or anything you can refine. It looks amazing, but perhaps a bit more control over what Bourne does would be better. I'd have to see if it wore thin over the course of the game. In the demo, certainly not, but I can see the possibility of it doing so.

- High blood pressure. My heart was actually racing and my teeth clenched during fight sequences. It's quite intense.

All in all, it's a great demo, and I'm certainly getting the game based on what I saw here.

Lego Indiana Jones - New Trailer

Great new footage of the upcoming Lego Indiana Jones game. Looks like key scenes are in place and there's a lot of humour shining through. Another winner I think.

Motion Controllers coming to 360?

This update from the tech site Engadget. Sounds like it might be neat if pulled off well. I'd never buy one, but it's nice to have options.

"Qmotions has been hawking various specialty sports controllers for a while now, but it looks like the company is about to take the next-gen plunge with an upcoming skateboard controller called the Qmotions Big Air for the Xbox 360 -- and best of all, Microsoft is going to let the company build official wireless peripherals. That's an honor Microsoft is pretty hesitant to dole out, but it seems like the ability to wirelessly rip up some Tony Hawk swayed J Allard and co. (We hear Ballmer is a monster in the pipe.) No word on price or game compatibility other than "skateboard games currently on the market," but look for this one to ollie into your heart sometime later this year."

Penny Arcade game gone gold

This update arrived this morning. It's a title I'm very interested in seeing. Can it capture the humour of the strip or not? It'll also be interesting to see how well it sells on XBLA. It's going to be 1600 MS Points, the highest amount ever used for an XBLA title. Too much to spend on an impulse purchase?

"Developer Hothead Game just announced that Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode One has gone gold for Windows, Mac and Linux....PAA tRSPoD:E1 is due out "later this quarter" via their new Greenhouse download service for $20. The game is also coming to Xbox Live, potentially in another quarter, for 1600 MS points (US $20)." (Joystiq)
